چکیده
This paper reports a new kind of tone polarity, where the phenomenon is seen in language with four level tones, Tenyidie (also known as Angami). I show that polarity features i.e. at subtonal level. The data also provide evidence tones themselves can be broken down into smaller features. Furthermore, demonstrate pattern observed an epiphenomenon, reflex Obligatory Contour Principle, not phonological process its own right. this help type tonal representation. Theoretical discussions have so far been almost entirely restricted to African systems, and languages just two tones. brings discussion Tibeto-Burman

Tone features, tone perception, and peak alignment in Thai.
This paper investigates the relationship between the phonological features of tone and tone perception in Thai. Specifically, it tests the hypothesis (proposed by Morén & Zsiga) that the principle perceptual cues to the five-way tonal contrast in Thai are high and low pitch targets aligned to moras. Results of four perception studies, one using natural speech and three using digitally-altered s...
متن کاملLexical tone and pitch perception in tone and non-tone language speakers
Past research on categorical perception of lexical tone has produced contradictory results. In Experiment 1 tonal (Mandarin, Vietnamese) and non-tonal (Australian) adults were tested for identification and discrimination on speech and non-speech (sine-wave) tone continua. Tonal language speakers’ category boundaries and discrimination peaks were near the middle of the asymmetric continuum, wher...
متن کاملSomali as a Tone Language
Since [1]’s seminal paper, Somali has usually been considered to be a tonal/pitch-accent language. Recently, phonologists have cast doubt upon the pertinence of such a prosodic class, arguing that pitch-accent languages do not form a coherent category with distinctive criteria and can be reduced to either stress/accent or tonal languages. This paper outlines a tonal analysis of Somali. It aims ...
متن کاملMusic-melody Perception in Tone-language and Non- Tone-language Speakers
Speech and music both utilize pitch variation to convey meaning, such as emotional affect. In speech, pitch conveys pragmatic meaning and, in tone languages, lexical information. This study examines how experience processing lexical pitch affects music-pitch perception. Twenty-eight non-musicians (14 English and 14 Mandarin speakers) discriminated and identified short melodies. The Mandarin lis...
متن کاملParallel tone score association method for tone language speech recognition
Tone is an essential component for word formation in all tone languages. Substantial work has been done on using tone information to improve speech recognition of tone languages. In this paper, a new method, called Parallel Tone Score Association (PTSA), for effectively and efficiently using tone in speech recognition is proposed. Experimental results show that the relative character error rate...
